Meet Today’s Leaders

The History of Nebraska FBLA Collegiate

Nebraska FBLA-PBL was formed as a unified organization in 1962 to serve students interested in business education and leadership development. The organization originally included both the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) divisions, serving secondary and postsecondary students, respectively. The first state officer team included a President; High School and College Vice Presidents; Corresponding and Recording Secretaries; Treasurer; and Reporter. The inaugural State Leadership Conference was held in March 1962, with representatives from three FBLA chapters, four PBL chapters, and delegates from four additional schools. The first collegiate chapter in Nebraska was established at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, which received its charter on October 25, 1962.

In 2022, the national organization adopted a unified brand identity and retired the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) name, renaming the collegiate division as FBLA-Collegiate. This change aligned all divisions under the FBLA brand while maintaining the organization's commitment to collegiate business education, leadership development, and career readiness. Today, Nebraska FBLA-Collegiate is active at more than 13 two-year and four-year colleges and universities across the state. With more than 200 members statewide, Nebraska FBLA-Collegiate provides students with opportunities to participate in the Fall Leadership Conference, State Leadership Conference, competitive events, professional development programs, networking experiences, and community service initiatives. Members compete in a wide variety of events reflecting today's business environment, including Business Presentation, Project Management, Business Ethics, Entrepreneurship, Job Interview, and Digital Communications. Through conferences, competitions, community service initiatives, and networking opportunities, Nebraska FBLA-Collegiate members gain valuable business experience and develop the skills needed to succeed as future leaders in the workforce.
